On Reptile Metabolism and Santana Lopez
Not the most coherent lecture to date.
The “I’m like a lizard” comment that Santana made when she refused to do a duet with Brittany in ‘Duets’ is probably one of the most hurtful things Santana has ever said on the show. Mostly because it was directed at Brittany, who is precisely the only person Santana wants to protect (outside of herself).
Various Brittanalysts have already pointed out that, even when she is hurting Brittany, Santana never turns an insult on her. Santana calls herself the lizard; she hurts Brittany, not by insulting her, but by spurning Brittany’s tentative (yet heartfelt) attempt to deepen their relationship.
Anyway, all I really wanted to talk about right now is Santana comparing herself to a lizard, and what it implies.
